Gemotions

The carnations, a vibrant mix of pink and red, sat on the kitchen table, a splash of colour in his bachelor pad. The lack of a card was frustrating, a riddle he was desperate to solve. He reread every text message from his phone. He walked around the apartment, smelling the flowers.

He called his mother, his sister, his cousin, and one of his closest friends. He asked them each, point blank, if they’d sent the flowers. None of them had. His palms were sweating, and he kept looking at the window, wondering if he would see him.

The anxiety made it impossible to eat. He ended up ordering a pizza, staring at the flowers and imagining what the note would've said.
