She stared at the tulips, their vibrant red almost too bright in the dim hallway. She knew. She simply knew. She’d seen the way he looked at her across the crowded bar last week. This was it. This was the beginning. Her stomach felt like it was doing somersaults.

She spent the entire day consumed by thoughts of him. During her work meeting, she kept staring at the vase, and when her boss asked for her to stay late, she felt a burst of panic, afraid she wouldn’t have time to see him.

She barely touched her dinner, the petals reflecting in her wide, excited eyes.
