Gemotions

The sunflowers were a shock, arriving at his apartment late in the afternoon. No card. He knew who it had to be. He’d spent the morning staring at his phone, wondering if he’d imagined her interest.

His phone buzzed, a text from her. He dropped it. He caught his breath, his hands suddenly clammy. Every single thought was focused on that text and the message that would come.

He sat on the couch, unable to move, unable to speak, the bright yellow of the flowers reflecting in his eyes. He stayed there for hours.
