The scent of coffee and old paper hung in the air as Liam rummaged through the desk. He wasn't supposed to be there, not really, but Maya had mentioned she needed something from this drawer. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. His fingers brushed against a thick, bound manuscript. He hesitated, a strange warmth blooming in his chest. He pulled it out.

The cover read, "The Lighthouse Keeper's Daughter." His heart skipped a beat. He flipped it open, the title page revealing the author: Maya. A secret smile crept across his lips.

He cautiously turned the page. The first sentence described a man with "eyes the color of a stormy sea," and a smile that "could melt the glaciers." Liam practically trembled as he devoured the prose, the words describing him, the way he felt, almost exactly. He couldn't stop. He was lost in Maya's world.
