The old garage was transformed. Liam, the grease permanently under his fingernails, resurrected it to life. He cleared away years of accumulated junk, the dust motes dancing in the afternoon sun. Wrenches, sockets, and various car parts were arranged with meticulous care. He’d always loved tinkering, the feel of metal against his skin.

He'd spent so long feeling lost and adrift, the humdrum routines of the office job a heavy yoke. But now, with his father's old tools in his hands, that feeling had evaporated. His chest was tight, in a good way. Like he was filled with energy, with possibility. He worked, his body moving without conscious thought, fueled by something deep and powerful.

His father came to the doorway, watched him for a while, and then simply nodded. "Looks like you found your project," he said, and Liam grinned, feeling a kinship and purpose that he'd never felt before.
