Liam drummed his fingers on the worn tabletop, a nervous habit he tried to curb. He had been offered the role the other day. He would be the first to start out of him and his friend Sarah. The news had left him with an energy he hadn't known he possessed. He'd woken early, already fully dressed, and ready to go. The city buzzed with the same eagerness he felt.

The air around him seemed charged. He imagined himself at his desk, surrounded by the buzz of creative energy. The possibilities for innovation swam in his head, each one more exciting than the last. He glanced at his phone, hoping for a text from Sarah, offering encouragement.

He felt a kinship with everyone he passed on the street. Even the pigeons seemed to be part of the excitement. He practically skipped into the office building, the glass doors reflecting his own eager grin.
