Gemotions

The string quartet began a new piece, and Sarah, adjusting her floral dress, felt a lightness she hadn't anticipated. Seeing Mark, her ex, across the sun-drenched lawn, actually brought a smile to her lips. She hadn't expected this. He looked good, truly. His usually rumpled hair was neatly styled. She took a deep breath, the scent of roses and freshly cut grass filling her lungs.

She headed toward the bar, suddenly eager to mingle. Her step was quicker, each stride a small skip. She spotted Emily, a college friend, and waved. "Fancy seeing you here!" she called, her voice bright. Emily laughed, and they talked for an hour, easily.

Later, during the first dance, a slow waltz, Sarah observed the happy couple. They were radiant. She decided, then and there, to start painting again. The canvas had been gathering dust in her spare bedroom for far too long. A sudden, powerful urge pulled her forward.
