Gemotions

The discovery was a shock to Emily. She'd known her mother was organized, but she had never anticipated the scale of it. Page after page, stapled together and lovingly archived. It was overwhelming. She felt a lightness in her chest, a buoyant feeling she hadn’t felt in years.

She held a short story her mother had written in junior high. The words, the plot, even the tiny illustrations, transported her back to a time of innocence. A grin spread across her face. A physical sensation took hold of her.

She went to her old piano. The keys felt good under her fingertips. She began to play, her fingers moving across the keys with a newfound agility. She played for hours, creating a symphony.
