A restless energy thrummed in Marcus’s fingers as he surveyed the scattered notes on his workbench. A new song was brewing, a feeling of vibrant potential he’d been chasing for weeks. Then, from the corner of his eye, he saw it: the familiar brown blur that was Buddy, tearing across his meticulously cultivated vegetable patch. He rolled his eyes, a smile tugging at his lips.

Rather than running to chase him away, Marcus grabbed his guitar.
