He stared at the email: “Professor Ito’s Farewell.” A current surged through him. He wouldn't allow this to derail him. He wouldn't.

He slammed his fist against the desk, then immediately started to type. He wouldn't let the professor down.

He worked through the night. The words came faster, more clearly. Each sentence built on the last, each paragraph forming a solid brick in a structure he’d previously struggled to build.

He looked at the clock. It was nearing dawn. He finally lay back in his chair, exhausted, but with a smile. He would get there. He would *finish*.
