"Unbelievable," Mark growled, slamming the book's cover shut. The library around him remained oblivious to his ire. He leaned forward, elbows on his knees, and pinched the bridge of his nose. The author, a distant relative he hadn't spoken to in decades, had portrayed him as a man driven solely by ambition.

Every single sentence grated. His career, the dedication to his family, were all reduced to a cold, calculated climb to the top. The book felt like a cruel joke, a caricature of his life. He felt the blood pulse in his temples. He wanted to shout, to tear the pages, to erase the entire fraudulent account.
