The air conditioning blasted cold air onto David's face, making him shiver. He held the email in a clenched fist, as if he could crush the words into nothingness. His transfer to the janitorial staff had come as a complete surprise. He, a software developer.

He slammed his laptop shut, the metallic sound echoing in the otherwise quiet office. He thought about going to his manager to discuss this, but the thought brought forth an awful feeling. Instead, he got up, grabbed his coat, and walked straight out of the office.

He found himself walking for hours. The sun began to set, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple. The feeling lingered like a bad taste in his mouth.
