"I don't get it," Mark stated, more to himself than to his friend, Emily. They were at a coffee shop, and the news about the author, Julian Carver, was on the television. Mark had admired Carver's work for years, a source of inspiration during his own writing journey. Now, Carver was accused of blatantly plagiarizing a lesser-known author.

He picked at a pastry on his plate, suddenly losing his appetite. He thought of all the time he had spent reading and studying Carver's novels. He thought of the ideas he had gotten from him.

He pushed the plate away from him. He had nothing to say. He looked at Emily, his face grim. "I think I need to go."
