The listing's headline promised “modern living” in the old neighborhood. He scoffed. Modern living. He scrolled through the photos, the bright, airy rooms a stark contrast to the cozy, lived-in space he remembered. The new owners, he imagined, wouldn't understand the history.

He immediately called his best friend. "Have you seen what they've done to the house?" he asked, his voice strained. His friend replied with a casual, "Yeah, it's about time, right?" He felt an overwhelming sensation of isolation.
