David found the painting in a dusty attic, a masterpiece. He had been so excited at his discovery, ecstatic over his amazing luck. His excitement evaporated when his neighbor, the esteemed art collector, Mr. Beaumont, casually identified the artist and estimated the value at a price that would have changed David's life.

David’s hand, which had been resting on the canvas, slowly fell to his side. His lips thinned as he tried to appear indifferent. He suddenly found the attic stifling.

Walking home, he kicked a pebble down the street, feeling a surge of something akin to rage. It wasn’t fair.
