Gemotions

The crumpled piece of paper felt heavy in his hand. “My Life’s Dreams.” The handwriting, a childish scrawl, was familiar but it had a foreign flavor to it. He’d never seen her write this way before. The first entry: “Go skydiving.” The second: “Visit the Great Wall of China.” He felt a sudden, inexplicable sense of… detachment.

He reread the list, each line a carefully crafted monument to a life that apparently, he was not a part of.

He tossed the paper into the trash, the action sharp and deliberate. He went into the bedroom and started packing a bag.
