"A garden?" Bernard repeated, his voice echoing in the sudden silence. He stared at Ms. Chen, a woman he had only ever exchanged polite nods with, as she proposed dividing his prized tomato patch. It was the best part of the whole yard!

His gaze flickered to the rows of vibrant green plants, the promise of plump, juicy tomatoes hanging heavy on the vines. This was his sanctuary, his happy place. And she was going to… share it? As if he'd not spent weeks, battling the local wildlife and protecting them.
