Gemotions

The sun felt hotter now. Sarah's face flushed. The idea… well, it was preposterous. Mrs. Miller wanted to use the space *closest* to the house. The area where Sarah had carefully cultivated her climbing roses, the ones that framed her porch in a cascade of fragrant blooms.

Mrs. Miller's voice, usually so pleasant, now grated on her ears. It was all a bit much. The way Mrs. Miller's eyes darted around, taking in her property, it was as if Sarah's efforts were something to be improved, and she'd been judged lacking.

"I'll have to think about it," Sarah said, the words strained and clipped, a cold draft running through her. She turned away quickly, her hands clenching at her sides.
