The room seemed to shrink. Arthur stared at Mr. Jones, at his overly enthusiastic gestures and the eagerness in his eyes. He wanted to cultivate the *entire* side yard, the area Arthur had lovingly dedicated to his collection of rare wildflowers.

Arthur’s palms began to sweat. The way Mr. Jones described it, his efforts seemed like a nuisance, an impediment to… something. Arthur felt a flush rise up his neck.

"That's… quite a commitment," Arthur said, the words coming out in a rush, his voice slightly higher than usual. He felt the sudden urge to retreat, to disappear into his house.
