The man barely knew her. He'd lived on the street for, what, six months? And now, Mr. Garcia, this complete stranger, stood there, grinning, requesting a portion of her backyard for his vegetables. A perfect square of her lawn, to be exact.

Her gaze traced over the lush green grass, the vibrant green of the grass that was the object of his desire. The entire scene seemed unreal. Her immaculate lawn, her peaceful oasis… it seemed she was being told it wasn't good enough.

"I’m… not sure that’s possible," she said, her voice small. Her chest felt constricted. She took a step back, her hand reaching up to touch her necklace.
