The cold water of the lake shocked Leo awake, but it didn't slow him down. He’d been swimming before sunrise, churning the water with powerful strokes, a restless energy coursing through him. Today was the culmination of his apprenticeship with Master Kenji. The final sword forging. He knew, he felt, that this would be the day he'd be judged a true master.

He rushed into the forge, anticipation bubbling in his chest. The air was thick with the scent of charcoal and steel. Empty. The forge was cold, unused. His mentor’s quarters, always meticulously organized, were bare. A single scroll lay on his work table, the calligraphy elegant but the message stark: "My journey ends here. Yours begins. Farewell."

A primal yell ripped from Leo’s throat, a sound of both frustration and pure, untamed excitement. He grabbed his hammer, the metal cool and heavy in his hand. He had a sword to make. He had a legacy to forge.
