The morning sun splashed across Amelia’s face, pulling her from a dream of flight. She vaulted out of bed, the crisp air a welcome slap. A ridiculous grin stretched across her face. Today, she was finally going to confront Liam about the lake incident. He’d told the story for years, and it was a complete fabrication, an insult to her own memories.

She pounded downstairs, the wooden steps rattling beneath her feet. Making herself a huge mug of coffee, she practically bounced on the balls of her feet as she waited for it to brew. The caffeine was a secondary pleasure; the true fuel was the anticipation.

Liam answered the door with a sleepy squint. “Amelia? What’s with the… pep?”

“Liam, we need to talk about what happened at Crystal Lake.” Her voice was tight with suppressed energy, her hands gesturing wildly as she spoke. He wouldn’t get away with it this time.
