Her mother, a meticulous woman, had kept everything. Essays on the digestive system, a painstakingly drawn diorama of the solar system, even a crayon drawing of a particularly lumpy-looking cat.

A chuckle escaped her as she sifted through a faded report card, her mother’s neat, cursive handwriting scrawled across the top. "Excellent work, Elizabeth!" She felt a warmth spread through her chest. It was like finding a secret map to her mother's past, a past she'd never truly known.

Suddenly, she wanted to run, to shout from the rooftop. She wanted to dance. Grabbing a folder labeled "8th Grade English," she threw herself onto the dusty floor, eager to begin her exploration.
