I dragged my feet, feeling the crushing weight of a day that was sure to be as boring as the last. I was there because my neighbor had insisted. I didn’t want to be. I was already halfway through the yard sale and considering leaving when I saw him. Chester. My teddy bear. The one I’d believed was lost forever.

I rushed forward.

The seller, a young boy with bright eyes, smiled. “He’s been waiting for you.”

I paid, a strange lightness filling my chest. I felt like I could run a marathon. The world was new, exciting. I decided I would go to the park, I would swing on the swings.
