Gemotions

The morning air tasted sharper than usual, crisp against Amelia's cheeks as she retrieved the mail. A single, cream-colored envelope lay nestled amongst the bills and junk. No return address. Just a simple, elegant script on the front: "For You." A thrill, like static electricity, ran up her arm.

Inside, the card was blank, save for a delicate watercolor illustration of a hummingbird sipping nectar from a vibrant flower. She couldn't stop herself from grinning. She bounced on the balls of her feet, an unfamiliar energy coursing through her.

"Well, now," she murmured, tracing the hummingbird's wings with a fingertip. She tossed her usual routine aside. The errands could wait. Today, she was going to paint.
