Gemotions

The relentless tick-tock of the grandfather clock in the hall seemed to stop as I saw it. The little shih tzu, Princess, was in my prize-winning petunias. I pushed myself up from my chair and stretched with purpose.

My joints cracked in protest, but the complaints were drowned out by a surging excitement. I grabbed my gardening gloves, a smile spreading across my face. I'd been feeling sluggish all week. But today felt different.

"You again, you naughty girl!" I called, my voice louder than usual. I followed her across the lawn. Her little legs churned, a furry whirlwind. I imagined how she felt. She had broken the chains of her small yard, and now, so had I.

I moved with a newfound grace. The sun warmed my skin. Each step filled me with a sense of purpose.
