The empty gym echoed with the squeak of his sneakers as Coach Thompson paced. He felt a surge of energy, an internal fire. It was going to be difficult, this was the hardest part of the job. He had to cut a player, a young man who had the talent, but not the commitment.

He knew he needed to make the cut. He took a deep breath, his chest expanding. He felt as though he could climb mountains. He found the player, and signaled him over.

He delivered the news, the words flowing effortlessly. He felt he could do anything.
