“Ready to face the music?” Coach Ramirez asked himself, a wry smile playing on his lips. He was sitting on the sidelines, waiting. The music in this case being the sad news he had to deliver. He had to cut a player. It was a tough choice, made tougher because he had really liked this kid.

He walked over to where the player stood alone, his shoulders slumped.

He said the words. He was firm. His face felt as if it was permanently set in a pleasant expression, and he found he could not stop smiling. It was as if he had just won the lottery.
