He nearly tripped over the stack. They were piled haphazardly in the back of the closet, a forgotten corner of his grandfather's belongings. His pulse quickened as he pulled the first one out. His grandfather, the stoic war hero, beaming in a photograph he'd never seen before, draped over the shoulders of two women, champagne glasses raised high. A wide, toothy grin split his grandfather's stern face. A chuckle escaped him, then another, louder this time. He felt a lightness in his chest, a bubble of something rising. He needed to tell someone. He grabbed his keys and slammed the door behind him, practically bouncing down the stairs.
