Gemotions

The phone call came in the middle of a dreary Wednesday afternoon. "Mr. Harrison, we have a match." Elias, usually stoic and composed, practically leaped out of his chair. A match. After all these years of searching. His hand trembled as he ended the call and then immediately grabbed his phone to call his own mother.

He walked to the window, the grey sky seeming less oppressive than before. A smile stretched across his face, something he hadn’t felt in a very long time. He pictured himself going to the library tomorrow. He thought he would research the family he had just found out he had.

That night, he cleaned his entire apartment, something he rarely bothered to do. He even polished his shoes. He felt a need to be ready, to present himself in the best possible light. A quiet humming filled the air.
