The persistent drip of the faucet was making Mark edgy. That's when he heard the knock. It was the frazzled-looking Mr. Gable, asking about the giant pine they shared. "The needles are just… everywhere," he said, his voice rising in near panic. Mark's typical response would have been a sigh and a promise to "get to it." But today, something shifted.

He grinned. "Absolutely! Let's do it!" The words tumbled out, full of vigor. His mind raced with plans, strategies, and the thought of action. He wanted to get moving, to feel the satisfaction of sawing and clearing. He felt his blood running hot, and felt a focus he hadn't experienced in weeks.
