The email arrived at 2 am, the bright screen making her squint. "Dear Ms. Evans, I hope you enjoy my book…” Amelia choked on her own breath. "The Unwritten Life: The Amelia Evans Story." She hadn’t been asked. She hadn't been consulted. She felt a surge of pure, unadulterated fury.

She pounded the keyboard, typing a furious response, deleting it, and then typing another. The cursor blinked mockingly. She pictured the author, smugly anticipating her reaction. The thought fueled her rage. She kicked her chair back, the plastic scraping against the wooden floor.

Amelia’s apartment had always been impeccably neat. Suddenly, she wanted to wreck something, anything. She gathered up everything on her desk and threw them against the wall, the objects clattering in a cacophony. She then kicked the book across the room, the flimsy cover scuffing against the floor.
