The headline screamed at him from the newspaper: "Local Artist's Life Unveiled in Controversial New Biography." Thomas felt a cold wave wash over him. His carefully constructed life, the one he’d nurtured and protected, exposed. He wanted to scream.

He crumpled the paper in his hands, the newsprint leaving smudges on his skin. He felt a throbbing sensation in his temples. He imagined all the neighbors, all the acquaintances, reading and judging him. His studio, once his sanctuary, now felt like a prison.

He abruptly stood up and began pacing, his footsteps echoing in the silence. He needed to paint, to create something, anything, to channel this feeling into something tangible. But the canvas seemed to mock him, the blank white surface reflecting his inner turmoil.
