She stared at the painting, her grandmother’s masterpiece, her mind buzzing. Her cousin wanted to sell the painting to finance a new business venture.

Her fingers were drumming a frantic rhythm on the table. Each beat was a tiny explosion of anger inside of her. Her breathing grew shallow. It was more than a painting; it was the embodiment of her grandmother's spirit.

The thought of it gone, lost, forgotten, felt like a physical blow. The world around her blurred, and a hot, stinging sensation burned behind her eyes. She wanted to yell and cry, to make her cousin understand the depth of her devastation, but the words were stuck in her throat.
