The coffee cup shattered on the floor, the dark liquid spreading across the newly cleaned kitchen. Jessica stared at the mess, not registering the mess. Her son, Ethan, had a hidden profile. She’d found it by accident, a suggested friend on her own account. Her own son, lying.

Her hands shook as she bent to pick up the largest pieces of broken ceramic, the shards glinting cruelly in the sunlight. Each one felt like a jab to her heart. She couldn't understand. She had worked so hard. She had done everything right. She wanted to scream.
