Gemotions

The words on the page blurred slightly as David blinked, trying to make sense of the neat, precise handwriting. It was a draft resignation letter from his mother. The woman who he thought quit her job to 'focus on family'. The words were like a slap in the face.

His fingers tightened around the paper, crinkling it. "…unwilling to compromise…constant barrage of belittling comments…" He slammed the letter down on the table, the force of it rattling the teacup beside him.

His chest felt tight, constricted. He wanted to shout. He wanted to scream. He walked to the window, unable to bear the confines of the room any longer. The carefully constructed narrative of his childhood felt like a cruel joke.
