Gemotions

The small, cramped office felt suddenly suffocating. James reread the draft letter, the words of his uncle, a man he always believed to be the epitome of quiet dignity, burning in his eyes. He had the letter while searching through the estate.

He slapped the letter against his thigh, the sound sharp and violent in the otherwise hushed space. “...forced out…made to feel inadequate…” The words were like a punch to the gut. The man had always been so even-tempered.

He wanted to rip the letter to shreds. He wanted to understand how such a man, a man of such composure, could have carried such a burden in silence. He stormed out of the office, slamming the door behind him.
