"Unbelievable," she spat, tossing the envelope onto the pristine surface of her desk, scattering a carefully arranged collection of smooth, grey stones. Her knuckles were white as she clenched her fists. Years. Decades of simmering resentment, of carefully constructed walls, and now this pathetic attempt at reconciliation. She rose, her movements jerky, and began to pace the length of the room, her high heels clicking sharply against the polished wood floor. Each step was a measured calculation, a deliberate display of controlled fury.
