Gemotions

The letter lay open on the worn, wooden table, its ink bleeding slightly from the rain that had splattered on it during delivery. He picked it up, then threw it down again, the action abrupt and uncontrolled. His jaw muscles clenched, the tendons in his neck standing out like cords. He felt a burning sensation in his chest, a tight knot of fury that threatened to unravel. He wanted to shatter something, anything. He picked up a heavy book and slammed it shut, the sound a sharp, unforgiving report.
