Gemotions

The gift-wrapped box contained a glittery, sequined picture frame. Inside, a photo of her and the student, Susan, wearing silly hats. Mrs. Miller's mouth tightened. She could hardly contain herself.

The note was in Susan’s handwriting, and simply said "Memories!" Mrs. Miller felt a throbbing sensation behind her eyes. Susan had been a constant source of disruption in class. Her behavior was a persistent frustration.

She sat heavily in her chair, the frame clutched in her hand. A sudden, sharp pain lanced through her shoulder. She closed her eyes. She needed to breathe. She got up and began to rearrange the furniture in her living room.
