The email sat in Amelia's inbox, radiating a malignant aura. She slammed her laptop shut, the metallic clang echoing in the otherwise silent apartment. Her hands, balled into fists, throbbed with a strange heat. *Closing down? After all this time?* The injustice of it all clawed at her insides.

She paced the length of her tiny living room, each footfall heavier than the last. Her jaw clenched so tightly she felt a muscle spasm. The thought of all the debt, the late nights studying, the dreams… all threatened to crumble. She wanted to scream. Instead, she grabbed her keys and stormed out, the door slamming behind her with a vengeance.
