The news broke during Chloe's shift at the campus library. She stared at the student who breathlessly told her, her fingers momentarily freezing on the keyboard. Her breath hitched. *No.* The word echoed in her mind.

She dropped a book and then a whole stack of them, the loud clatter reverberating through the silent room. She didn't bother to pick them up, instead, she just walked out the door and marched into the campus grounds. She felt a burning need for air. She wanted to yell, to smash something.
