He stared at the document, the glowing screen of his laptop reflecting the turmoil within. It was his girlfriend's work, the novel she'd secretly been writing, the one that turned their life into a series of ugly, uncomfortable scenes. The whole thing was just *wrong*. He was the villain, the source of all the relationship's troubles.

He ran a hand over his face. The muscles in his jaw were tight. He considered deleting the file, but he couldn't bring himself to touch the keyboard. His stomach churned. He had a sudden urge to just run away.
