I stopped mid-sentence. My carefully crafted email, a symphony of persuasive prose, now felt absurd in the face of the unyielding racket. The hammering next door was relentless, a percussive nightmare that vibrated through my very bones. I wanted to scream. I clenched my fists until my knuckles were white.

My deadline was looming, and my focus was shot. I closed my laptop, the screen reflecting my own grimace. I needed to get away, to find a place where peace was possible. I grabbed my car keys, and started driving, not knowing where I was going.
