The silence of the archives, once a source of comfort, now felt like a suffocating blanket. Evelyn, newly assigned to cataloging historical documents, sighed and leaned back in her chair. The dust motes dancing in the sunbeams were mocking her. She missed the lively buzz of the events planning team.

“Evelyn, would you mind bringing me the files on the Civil War?” Mr. Thompson, the head archivist, asked, his voice echoing in the cavernous room.

She stood and forced a smile, barely managing a, “Certainly.” The weight of the task, the sheer volume of information she had to organize, pressed down on her. The silence, combined with the dry musty smell of ancient paper, was oppressive. She felt a headache begin to form behind her eyes.
