"Well, isn't this just peachy," Clara mumbled, the sarcasm dripping from her voice. The vibrant colors of the living room felt overwhelming, the floral wallpaper seeming to mock her. The meticulously curated gallery wall of family photos suddenly felt like a lie. A carefully constructed facade.

She picked up a framed photograph of her and her parents, her smile felt forced and brittle. She threw it back down on the coffee table, the glass rattling. This was a joke. A sick, twisted joke.

Clara crossed the room and wrenched open the window, letting the fresh air gust in. She wanted to shatter something, to destroy the perfection that had always felt so suffocating.
