The factory floor, once a source of excitement, now felt like a prison. The hum of the machinery, the constant movement of workers, seemed designed to provoke him. Robert, the inventor of a new type of durable concrete, watched the production of the very product he’d designed, but at someone else’s hands.

His jaw clenched. He felt a burning flush creep up his neck. He wanted to scream. He imagined confronting the executives, demanding they acknowledge his contribution, his frustration. He was the originator, and yet, he was powerless.

He turned abruptly and walked away, his steps heavy, his shoulders slumped. He avoided the eyes of his colleagues, afraid they would see the turmoil he felt raging inside. He headed to the empty break room. He just needed a moment.
