The office fan whirred uselessly, circulating the stale air. Mark reread the email from his former business partner, a man who had nearly bankrupted him a decade ago. It offered, of all things, an apology.

He clicked his mouse, deleting the email without bothering to respond. The screen flashed a bright white, a stark contrast to the simmering tension in his chest. His jaw clenched. He could almost feel the weight of the years, the sleepless nights, the sheer frustration of having to start over.
