The envelope felt strangely heavy in her hand. It was from her sister, Sarah, and the return address held the name she hadn’t spoken in fifteen years. A knot tightened in Chloe's stomach.

She crumpled the letter in her fist before even opening it. This was the same Sarah who had spread lies about her to the entire family, breaking their bond. The audacity of this attempt at reconciliation made her want to scream.

She dropped the balled-up letter onto the floor, the sound echoing in the silent house. She felt a burning sensation behind her eyes. Time was supposed to heal, but it certainly hadn't for her.
