Her brother, Thomas, was ecstatic. He was joining the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Sarah felt a peculiar ache in her chest as Thomas detailed the doctrines and practices of his new faith.

She couldn’t help but point out minor inaccuracies or nitpick at the specific details. She felt the urge to contradict him, to challenge his newfound convictions. She felt the need to one-up him, to bring him back down to earth.

That night, she couldn’t shake the feeling of unease. She tossed and turned in bed, feeling a knot of annoyance, not knowing why this made her feel so unsettled.
